![]() ![]() The rest of the crew is dead, sadly, although he does not remember who they are either. Using Weir’s brand of scienc-ing, he figures out that he is somewhere in space, alone. The book starts with a man waking up alone in a room. The audiobook was so good that I looked for physical things to do with my hands so I could put my headphones in my ears and tune back into Project Hail Mary. I worked, drove kids everywhere on earth, prepared meals, gardened and did chores. I’ve got to say, I was so pumped and excited while listening to Hail Mary by Andy Weir that I desperately carved out every available minute I had to listen, completing the 16 hour and 10 minute book over three days. The only way that an audiobook can ever be as good as Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir is to have a rare combination of an innovative writer who has perfected a winning writing style, combined with an innovative narrator, Ray Porter, that happens to be perfect for the material. "Oh, this is how the book is supposed to be read.Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir is so good on audio that it basically creates a standard by which all novels and audiobooks should strive to meet. ![]() Without William Hootkins' hilarious narration I probably would have missed that the book is a (dark) comedy, through and through. William Hootkins' performance of Moby Dick is the funniest. In general I've found that high profile actors almost always do an amazing job narrating audiobooks, though they usually only narrate one or two before returning to movies. She also did a great job with Anna Karenina. Maggie Gyllenhaal was a perfect fit to narrate The Bell Jar. The Wandering Inn is something special though, and I'm hoping it will make a splash outside that community. She should be one of the most sought after narrators in the business, but so far she works almost exclusively with self-published litRPGs. I'm hoping her work on The Wandering Inn series, with its myriad of fantasy characters and monsters, will be her breakout role. He's good enough that he can even make mediocre books entertaining.Īndrea Parsneau could be the next Nick Podehl. He narrates entire casts of characters with distinct voices, yet I can't recall him recycling voices between different series. He's particularly good at fantasy voices. Nick Podehl is my favorite prolific narrator, with hundreds of books in his resume. Steven Weber nails it all with the highest energy performance I've heard in an audiobook so far. One character stutters, one does radio DJ voices all the time, one is a demonic clown, etc. Steven Weber did my all time favorite audiobook performance for Stephen King's IT.
